Art-based Counselling and Support in Pictou County.

BEAM provides art-based counselling services tailored specifically for children and individuals with a developmental-related diagnoses. At our practice, we specialize in offering a unique therapeutic approach that incorporates the power of art to support development and establish healthy daily routines.

Offering services to individuals in New Glasgow and surrounding areas. Tele-health services also available. Provided by Counselling and Art Therapist, Denise Benison.

As art therapists, our aim is to empower both individuals with developmental diagnoses and their loved ones through the transformative power of art. We are here to guide and nurture their creative journey, providing a safe and expressive space where they can explore their emotions, heal, and grow. Our collaborative approach ensures that they receive the support they need to unlock their inner creativity and embark on a therapeutic adventure. Let art become the catalyst for their personal growth and emotional well-being. Together, we can make a positive difference in their lives.

Build Connection.

Art making with others has the extraordinary power to build deep and lasting connections. It creates a space for shared experiences, self-expression, and mutual growth. Whether embarking on a simple craft project or diving into complex art forms, the process allows families and groups to come together, fostering understanding, support, and a sense of togetherness.

Express big emotions.

Art making also enables self-expression within a group or family unit. Each person brings their individual thoughts, emotions, and experiences to the creative process. Through their artwork, family members can communicate their inner worlds in a non-verbal and often deeply profound way.

Improve daily function.

By engaging in art, members are encouraged to think outside the box, explore new ideas, and solve artistic challenges together. These skills can extend beyond the art activities themselves and be applied to problem-solving in daily life, fostering innovation, adaptability, and critical thinking among family or group members.

We’re here to help you and your loved one BEAM.

BEAM stands for “building emotional awareness and mental health.” It is also that feeling of pride and accomplishment - we want this for our families.

We understand the importance of early childhood development, supporting individuals with developmental diagnoses, and helping families to shine their brightest. BEAM offers a variety of services, including developmental screenings for under 5 years (ASQ), caregiver and child art-based counselling, non-clinical group programming, caregiver support, and referrals to additional resources as needed.

Overcome your daily obstacles.

Identify your starting point

We all have that aspect of the day as a caregiver that we struggle with more than the rest. Perhaps it is tears getting out the door or “drama” at bedtime?

Find the root of the behaviour

Often these daily struggles can be caused by an unmet need, misunderstood expectation or sensory element. We review this point and implement small steps to resolve.

We will hold your hand

As we explore the small steps and aim to improve this part of your daily routine by navigating expectations and behaviours, we will be there every step.

Finding peace in the process

We use creative tools to help you visualise your ideal day with your family and implement gentle parenting and caregiving to support your daily function.
